Welcome to the BDA Website
The British Dragon Boat Racing Association is the governing body of dragon boat racing in Great Britain. Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing and most exciting water sports you can take part in. The BDA is responsible for all aspects of the sport from community development up to managing British teams racing abroad. It runs a National League calendar for racing crews all round the country together with the National Championships held annually at the National Water Sports Centre.

2008 Congress Postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances the 2008 congress scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday 22nd November) has been postponed to coincide with the January round of the Henley Winter Series. Proceedings will start at 12:30 on Sunday January 18th with a similar agenda to that planned for tomorrow. Congress will take place irrespective of the river conditions. BDA Awards 2008

The recent BDA Awards ceremony and birthday celebration were a great success with music and discussion into the early hours. The guests of honour, Rachel Smith and Lin Griesel, shared their experience of crossing the Atlantic in a craft even smaller than a dragonboat. Nottingham in October was a pussy cat in comparison!

This was the inaugural presentation of annual awards honouring athletes, teams, coaches and movers and shakers alike. Congratulations to the following BDA members who were honoured this year:

After competing in the recent Euoropean Championships the new coaching team are now re-building the squad for the 2009 World Championships. John Creaser has sent out the following call to arms and the poster below to spread the word about the first training session on December 7th - "If you are 40 or over on June 1st 2009 then come along and join us to get the strongest crew we can to take on the World."

2008 BDA Congress - Updated

Full details of the 2008 BDA Congress are available to download in the poster below, including revised contact details to let us know if you are able to attend. Come and have your say on the 22nd November at the Guildford Waterside Centre and influence the direction of the sport for 2009 and beyond.

The front page of Dragon Boat International magazine mourns the loss of Sergio Orsi. Mike Haslam, our Chairman, said of the loss 'Sergio was a good man who supported us well and that support will be missed'.  The front page is attached below.
