There are a number of exciting developments in Yorkshire region that will increase the opportunities for paddling locally, and will also improve the facilities available.  These take a number of forms and this is just a summary of some of the projects currently underway.

If you club or organisation is currently expanding or working on other initiatives, please let us know!

Manvers - The Manvers project is well underway. The working party is in the process of handing over control to a club committee that will take over operations of the site.  A very successful open evening was held at the new canoeing site at Manvers in early October (to view the news article, click here).  The lakeside area is currently being developed and a boat/club house is expected to be built in 2008.  If you want to learn more about the development, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  or register your interest using the online form.

Washburn - There are proposals to expand the bottom part of the site, with improved parking and access faciliies and some changes to the river bed in the lower part of the river. This is expected to commence in 2008.  The new lease will also allow use of Thruscross reservoir for organised flat water canoeing events.

Fairburn nr Castleford - BCU Facilities are currently investigating a potential new canoeing venue in West Yorkshire.  The site is the basin of a former coaling wharf located on the south bank of the Aire between Castleford Bridge and Ferrybridge (Old A1) Bridge.  The complex could include a club house, cafe, community buildings and polo pitches.  More info ...

River Aire: Leeds - Several options are being explored that may provide access to the river Aire in Leeds and possibly the establishment of another canoe club.
