SportsAid exists to support young persons aged over 12 and under 18 (when the application is made) who wish to get to national squad standard in their chosen sport. Canoeing is one of the many sports funded by small grants to assist with training, travel and equipment.
Applications are considered in three rounds each year - the deadline for canoeing is 28 November 2008.
The idea of the scheme is that people who are on the fringes of national selection are given a small grant to help them achieve their goal. People who have actually made the national squads can also get funding if the national body does not provide any assistance itself. Persons who receive World Class Performance, Potential or Start funding are not eligible.
Applications must be supported by a representative from the sport's governing body to verify that the individual's aims are realistic. There is no guarantee that an applicant will receive a grant. All awards are made at the absolute discretion of SportsAid and are subject to finance being available.
For more information about SportsAid, please visit their website at http://www.sportsaid.org.uk/
For canoeing, Andy Goodsell at BCU HQ will act as the representative of the governing body for canoeing and completed forms should be submitted to him before the deadline dates. We recommend that all applications are channelled through and are supported by your club’s organiser or representative (i.e for polo, slalom etc).
