There are a number of exciting developments in Yorkshire region that will increase the opportunities for paddling locally, and will also improve the facilities available. These take a number of forms and this is just a summary of some of the projects currently underway.

Please find below a summary of the current facilities being developed for Yorkshire's paddlers.
Manvers - The Manvers project that started back in 2007 is now well underway. The working party has handed over control to a club committee that will run the day to day operations of the site. The lakeside area has been developed and a boat/club house has been built and is being outfitted. Washburn - There are plans to expand the bottom part of the site, with improved parking and access faciliies and some changes to the river bed in the lower part of the river. This work commenced in 2008 and is ongoing. The new lease will also allow use of Thruscross reservoir for organised flat water canoeing events. Check out the Washburn website for more information.
River Ure at Ripon - We are pleased to confirm that we have purchased a plot of land at Ripon that will provide access to the river Ure. For more details about this exciting development, please see our sub-site for Ripon.
Fairburn nr Castleford - BCU Facilities are currently investigating a potential new canoeing venue in West Yorkshire. The site is the basin of a former coaling wharf located on the south bank of the Aire between Castleford Bridge and Ferrybridge (Old A1) Bridge. The complex could include a club house, cafe, community buildings and polo pitches. For more information click here.
River Aire: Leeds - Several options are being explored that may improve access to the river Aire in Leeds. Leeds Canoe Club and the RDT are represented on the Aire Action Group to make sure that out views are considered.
Sheffield - Consultation has taken place with the Environment Agency regarding the river Don in Sheffield. Improvements are being made to the river following the floods in 2007, and there is the opportunity for the paddling community to voice any concerns.
